I was reading Dan's piece thinking exactly the same thing... "Are there
precedents on the Recorder?" Why don't we see recorders in C, Bb, A etc.

But Ed, can we compare the Flute which overblows an octave, not a twelfth, to
the clarinet and the accompanying fingering changes that accompany register
break slurs etc? Maybe this is why period flutes are still usable?
