I think we talked about this a year or so ago, but I don't remember what
ever came from it. If I TRANSPOSE a part do I legally need permission
to do so? It may sound stupid, but it does raise a few questions. For
example: I hate bass clarinet parts in A and in bass clef. If I
transpose on sight that's ok. If I write out the part, am I ok? If I
give the written out parts to friends, am I ok? Sell it to the friend?
(not a close friend I guess)

What if I have a woodwind quartet and I think it would make a nice
clarinet quartet (4 clarinets of some sort). Can I just transpose the
parts and play it? It seems to me like this should be legal.

The other day someone was asking about the Francaix sax quartet that
Eddie Daniels and Sabine Meyer play on the Blues for Sabine CD... can I
just transpose the sax parts myself, or do I have to buy the arrangement
that they play?

Just wondering,
J

Its nice to have Dan back, even though he will probably be mad at me for
ask a non-clarinet question.
