I always thought the one bit of original music John Williams wrote was
the Jaws theme. While it is similar to Dvorak 9, it bears an even more
striking resemblance to Prokofiev's "Battle on the Ice" from Alexander
Nevsky - plagiarized, even.
But Stravinsky said that good composers borrow from other composers -
great composers steal!

I wouldn't call it stealing. People have been writing music for centuries
Now even though there are limitless permutations to the amounts of notes
that csn gbe placed together to form music Eventually there are going to be
similarities etween songs. I mean for example in the 70's and 80s one such
similarities that conmes to mind is the Intro from 'DREAM ON" by Aerosmith
And the Intro to "HOME SWEET HOME" by Motley Crue. Its not identical but
its close. I'm sure if we all sat down we could spend a life time of motifs
from one composer to motifs from another. But look at it this way. I am
using the same words that everyone else who speaks english is using. And
often I use hrases that are identical to something someone else has said.
The principle in similiar in music. Music is a language its the unoversal
language that nows now boundaries. Williams has motives that sound like
Beethovens 5th in Star wars. But they are not the same and are not bering
used in similiar ways. He is taking a similiar idea using the similart
structure form and tone and using it to state something completely different
from Beethoven. So I wouldn't call it stealing or plagerism. Its called
learning actuall. I mean how do we learn to form sentences and speak
properly. We learn by example and that is similiar to what composers are
doing when they write something that resembles something else. They are
imitating and sometimes that is considered to be the best form of flattery
and they are also saying that this idea that he had was so good that it can
be used as a model for what I'm trying to accomplish.
