Oh brother! This comment really doesn't merit a reply. This attitude of
being able to "understand" music is what's killing it for classical music.
Yes, our loftiness is our downfall. "Our music" is more profound than your
music. It's so stupid. Whose to say that the Beatles, Peter Gabriel, or the
Sex Pistols or whatever popular artist you like, isn't capable of creating
meaningful, profound and lasting music. I would bet that the Beatles will
be remembered for their work in the 60's by more people and musicians than
Stockhausen will be. But because Stockhausen may be in some future edition
of Grout or something similar, does that mean it is more important?

Ah, but enough of this. The marching band thread was far away enough from
the topic of this list. Or maybe it's not far enough. Shall we go onto some
other unrelated subject, like religion, or auto repair, or people you
wouldn't want to see naked?
