Belated thanks to all those who gave advice on my upcoming competition.
Obviously the opinion that "only Mozart and Weber are truly safe" isn't quite
what I was hoping to hear, but I appreciate knowing that if I go with the Finzi
I may lose simply on repertoire selection. I think I'll do it for now anyway,
though, just to be stubborn and to maybe show the jury that there have been
other outstanding compositions for the clarinet. I'm a sophomore, so I've got
2 tries at this, and if I lose this fall I can always do something like the Weber
2nd the next year, I guess. (I'm one of the few people I've met who prefers the
second to the F minor!) Well, I'm just sort of rambling like usual, but anyway,
thanks everyone!
