Same feeling, different era...1952, Balboa Stadium in San Diego, California
(original home of the San Diego Chargers), annual fall Football Carnival, all
six San Diego City School District high schools (bands and football teams)
represented, my high school (La Jolla Jr. Sr. High) is the lead band for the
pregame show, a 12-year old 8th grade clarinet player in the 7th row, 2nd in
from the right flank in a 50-piece band (me) marched onto the field with
10,000 high school students screaming. I will NEVER forget that experience
as long as I live. Thanks for your indulgence.
