Subj: Reed vibration modes

I read a posting that piqued my interest. Someone wrote
that overtightening a reed induces it to squeak. I'm not
arguing the point (as a rank beginner, though, I can
squeak & squeal without having to induce any
overtightening of the ligature). Looking at my clarinet
as a whole, using my electrical engineering background,
I can see that different modes will be produced by
way of two resonating cavities - the clarinet tube and
my throat/mouth/lungs/sinuses et al. However, I can't
see physically why overtightening the ligature would
emphasize the partials.
