Well, the Southern CA band directors certainly agree with you there,
Cathy. In their high school marching band competitions, Music counts
for 450 out of 1000 points, General Effect (of which Music is the single
largest component) for 350, and Marching and Maneuvering is only 200
points out of 1000. I can't imagine other judging associations being too
dissimilar from this, so woe to those band directors who de-emphasize
the music! They'll be very lucky indeed to score as high as 3rd place.
