Peter--

Like others who have responded, I recommend a silk swab. For the last six
years or so I've been using swabs I think originally made/marketed by
someone in the Coppenbarger family (Brent?). They come in absolutely wild
colors and patterns (leopard skin, anyone? hot crimson?), and used
appropriately can rouse even the most torpid audience from its slumber.
I've been buying them from Lisa at Int. Music Supplies; I think Lisa is
now marketing them under her own brand name.

Subject: softening new swab

I've been "breaking in" (or at least trying to) a new Buffet swab; it
seems incredibly thick/tough and is hard to pull through the bore. I've
tried washing it by hand several times to soften it up, but no luck. Any
ideas?

Thanks,
Peter (peter.stoll@-----.ca)
