I don't want to sound sarcastic here, but my only suggestion is to give
up. I have Buffet swabs that are several years old and they don't seem to
get softer. Eventually they catch on the octave post inside the horn and
end up tearing. The Yamaha swabs are much thinner and generally don't
even get stuck in my e-flat. By far the best, though, is a silk Gem swab.
They are absorbant and never get stuck.
