Regarding concerto competitions:
While in junior college many eons ago, I won a concerto competition
by autitioning on the Hindemith, but ended up playing the Weber Fm
Concerto. The conductor thought the Hindemith was dull and "too modern"
(!). Anyway, I played the Weber and cried with my $1000 prize all the
way to the bank.
