Tara LeClair asked about repertoire for church services or social
functions...

I happen to be playing in a large church this Sunday (it will even be
broadcast on TV) so I thought I'd give a few suggestions:

I'm playing an obbligato part to a tenor solist's performance of "The
Gift of Love," an US folk song arranged by Zaninelli and I'm playing the
"Andante" from Verdi's "La Forza del Destino." It is a meditative work
and can be found with piano accomp. in "Recital Clarinetist" ed. Armato,
Carl Fischer.

I have done a wide range of things in churches: all the way from
Messiaen and Malher transcriptions to the "Fantasy Pieces" of Gade.
Play what you like as long it is ok with the music director.

Your most economical bet (other than music from a library) is to use
music from collections:

"Solos for the Clarinet Player" ed. Christman -Schirmer
slow movements from concertos, baroque and classical transcriptions

"Solos for the Intermediate Clarinetist" ed. Heim -Mel Bay PUblications
mostly baroque and classical transcriptions as well as Schubert,
Brahms, Rach., MacDowell and Faure

"First Repertoire Pieces for Clarinet" ed. Wastall -Boosey & Hawkes
easy orignal and transcribed pieces mostly in Romantic style

Happy hunting.
