Tara--

Welcome to the list.

You might consider the following. All are for piano and clarinet except
the Osborne, which is for clarinet alone.

Borodin, Notturno (Nocturne), Universal [from B's second string quartet]

JS Bach, Adagio from Toccata in C Major, Gamble Hinged Music (I think this
publisher is now defunct) (good for church, and good for the soul)

Debussy, Petite Piece, Southern Music

Fuchs, Arien und Walzer aus "Die Zauberflote" (Arias and Waltzes from
Mozart's "Magic Flute"), Universal [an arrangement by a man who was more or
less Mozart's contemporary]

Joplin, Six Ragtimes, Edition Kunzelman

Fritz Kreisler, Liebesfreud [loosely translated "Love of Sigmund Freud" --
but please don't tell anyone this :)], Publ. Charles Foley -- I think
Liebeslied might also be available.

Willson Osborne, Rhapsody, Peters

Satie, 3 Gymnopedies, JB Cramer

Tchaikovsky, Andante Cantabile, Fentone [from string quartet opus 11]

Telemann, Suite in A minor, Schirmer (slow mvmt is a possible for church)

Weber, Concertino, lots of editions

The publishers I've named are not necessarily the current ones, they're
just the ones I happen to have. A good source is Eble Music in Iowa, call
(319) 338-0313. The Osborne and Weber probably go beyond the "fairly
simple" you want, but you might give them a try and see how people respond.
For weddings there are standard books -- ask Eble.

Good luck and have fun!

Subject: repertoire ideas?

I have been subscribed to klarinet for a few weeks now and am
enjoying it immensely. This is my first time posting a message..... I hope
it works.

I am just finishing up My last exams at University and am getting
ready to go back home for 4 months.... being from a small town I have a lot
of opportunities for performance experience. (I didn't say they were all
"great" opportunities....... notice "experience!!")

Most are for church services and "social" functions (weddings,
gatherings.....etc..). Unfortunately, my repertoire list is still somewhat
limited. I was wondering if anyone on the list could give me some
suggestions of pieces that may be suitable for these types of occasions. I
guess I am looking for things that fairly simple yet pleasing to listen to
as most of the listeners will have little or no musical background.

Thanks in advance..... any ideas will be greatly appreciated!
Tara :)
