PH (sorry, don't know your name - you didn't give it),
I have an eefer for you. It is (don't run or laugh) a Normandy,
which means it is quite old because they only made eefers when they were
an independent company (before being bought up by Leblanc). It is
AMAZINGLY in tune! I also own an RC eefer and the tuning is not really
better than the Normandy (although the tone and reasponse are - but
that's quibbling when one is talking about eefers - tuning is virtually
everything).
This Normandy is mechanically sound and the tone is typically
French - smaller and lighter than the my Buffet. However, these are not
major drawbacks in an eefer. I added a Noblet barrel (the closest I could
find, as this instrument is decades out of production), tho it is a
little big (I hope to get around to putting on a fatter cork soon) and I
have to use paper to build up the tenon, so it now tunes at pretty much A
440. The only notes that are out are the two lowest ones - the E and F.
However, I haven't yet found an eefer part which uses either of those
notes. I'm SURE that they are never used in popular exerpts, so there's
no worry there.
I am asking $800 for it, which I don't see as unreasonable,
considering how in tune it is (especially since new Buffets or Selmers are
going for double that and there's no guarantee that they are in tune at
all - ESPECIALLY the Selmers).
