It seems odd that there should be a "repiano" (or whatever) part without a
"solo" part. "Repiano" is a corruption of "ripieno", used in the days of
the concerto grosso to denote the string parts which were not played by
the "concertino" - the sort of solo players. Usually (I am open to
correction by those who have more concert band experience than I have), it
denotes the parts next in importance to the "solo". "Repiano" is also used
in the traditional description of brass band parts, generally for cornets.
