Oliver, contact cement is the most widely used adhesive for gluing tenon
corks as well as key corks. I switched to it from shellac about six years
ago. I don't believe it holds any better, but it is easier to use in my
opinion.

I do all of my own cork replacement but I've never hit on a cement that is
