My International Music Co. edition of Op. 115 has mm.81-93 of the slow
(second) movement [the hardest part of the piece, I think] written out for
Clarinet in Bb! There's
only 4 quarter notes to switch from A to Bb and 4 1/2 to switch back to A.
And the transposition is no great improvement: 4 flats, but going only to
high F.

Could this be what you refer to? Personally, I think it's a lousy idea, as
there's no time to switch mouthpieces, and as the notes aren't much easier.
Imagine playing that passage on a cold horn with a different reed/mouthpiece!
