The Brass (particualarly trumpet) section of nearly every group I've ever
been part of have used this technique very effectively (although they
do have the advantage of being able to drop their mutes rather than
our rather puny mouthpiece covers!) I'd figured it was the one thing
we were supposed to learn from them :-}!.
