I am wondering if anybody out there in Klarinet land knows of some good
bass clarinet solos, specifically good concertos for bass and orchestra.
I hear about things now and then, but it is sometimes dificult to find
music for them.

A couple of performances I have heard about, I think:

Did J. Lawrie Bloom play a concerto with the CSO within the past couple of
years? and what was it like?

For those in Los Angeles: about 6-8 years ago (I think-it was a long time
ago), I heard somebody (I don't know who) play a concerto for bass
clarinet with the USC symphony. I remember that it was a cool (and
difficult sounding) work that has a qote of another piece in it with the
solo written over it (I think it was Mars from the Planets). Does anybody
out there have a clue as to what this piece is, because I obviously don't.

If there is anything else out there that is cool, I'd love to hear about
it.

Thanks

Ben Maas
