Stephen,

When I have a sticky pad, I just take a dollar bill
and pin it under the pad with my thumb while drawing it out slowly. The
paper on which US money is printed (apologies to the list's international
players, this may not work as well with other currency) seems to be very
absorbent, and it's tough paper, so it doesn't rip. (Not that I'd
try this with $100 bills, if I actually had any...) Of course, this may be a
"quick fix" similar to the leather one you mentioned, (though I would take
the dollar bill over leather or any other substance for this purpose), but I've
never had a pad stick after doing this. Then again, maybe I've never had
a truly problematic pad, but I think it's worth a try.
