My thanks to L. Borchert, Rob Teitelbaum and especially Ed Lacy for
their helpful responses -- that it's also known as "horse tails" is a
great help. I guess it probably grows just about everywhere -- well,
except perhaps for Manhattan -- but the fact that it's off a route
that my friends and I tend to ride just seemed to make it a fun
reason to take the bikes out. So, no, Marty -- it's *not* the only
reason I'm going out to New Mexico! (but you prolly knew that).
