Noreen--

Here's a copy of a response I sent a while ago to a similar inquiry re the
Mozart quintet; it lists three good recordings of the Brahms.

"Of recent performances I like Harold Wright, a beautiful musician, on
Philips 442 149-2 (with Brahms Quintet). Reginald Kell is now represented
by two recordings, one from 1945 on Testament SBT 1007 (also has Trio and
Concerto), and a luscious one from 1958 with the much underrated Fine Arts
Quartet, now reissued on Boston Skyline BSD 135 (with the Brahms). Also
fascinating is Charles Draper's 1928 recording with the Lener Quartet,
reissued on Pearl GEMM CD 9903 (with the Brahms). (These are all on CD.)
If you buy only one, I say buy Kell and the Fine Arts, Kell's "mannerisms"
notwithstanding."
