I've experienced this dilemma several times, sometimes on halfway decent
clarinets but usually on school instruments far worse than old R-13's. (Some
of them were even plastic-UGH!) I think you're right to be concerned about
not getting overly accustomed to the temp., although my experience is that
once my beloved Buffet is back in my hands, it takes very little time (a day
at most) to become reacquainted with it, and at that point I think I actually
sound far better on it than normal, because I'm so thrilled to have it back,
and hence I play with a little extra gusto, if you know what I mean...
Still, I hope your ailing clarinet has a speedy recovery.
