Enthusiasts for high clarinets may be interested to know that the Italian
company Orsi (of Milan) still makes, in addition to clarinets in Eb and Ab,
piccolo clarinets in high A and high Bb.
I have this from Alfredo Bonamini, their German salesman.
Most musical textbooks either ignore these instruments altogether or say
that they are obsolete so it is interesting that there must be a demand
somewhere.
The brass firm Kalison (also of Milan) also used to make simple system metal
piccolo Bb clarinets for export to Peru in the 1950s although they no longer
do so and concentrate on brass, particularly trombones and tubas.
