It seems to me that the proper function of Pad Savers is in explained
in the name of the product, i.e., the purpose of Pad Savers is to
save the pads by wicking water away from the pads. Even after
careful swabbing of the bore, water may occasionally remain on the
walls of the tone holes and on the pads themselves. I agree that Pad
Savers should only be used after swabbing otherwise those nasty
things described by Karl can happen.
