Edmund,
Do yourself a favour and don't try to play the show with a bass
clarinet sitting on your lap! If you're not used to where the switches are,
write reminders in the score at suitable rests (or use post-it notes). This
way, you can still hook up the bass clar so it's ready, but you don't have
to wear it the whole time! I personally do not own a bass clarinet stand;
I just leave the case next to my chair and lay the instrument down in it
when it's not in use.
