Trivia:

I also use florist tape as a lip cushion, but a few years ago, when I
was looking for something more permanent (not disposable), I got a
dentist interested in trying to make something. He thought he wouldn't
be able to make the mouthguard material thin enough etc (also thought
about other materials), so he came up with chrome. He took an
impression of my mouth and made me a chrome guard which fitted over four
teeth.

It was quite strange (great when the spotlight hit it!); I could race
around the altissimo register without feeling a thing. I eventually
felt guilty about not feeling *anything* though, so stopped using it.
Also, I couldn't tell if I was using minimal pressure or biting my lip
in half.

Just thought I'd add that bit of trivia.
