The very best portable/collapsible bass clarinet stand is made by
K&M (Koenig & Meyer) and runs $90. It is made of strong metal,
is very light-weight, and works perfectly in an orchestral doubling
situation. You can obtain one through any of the major warehouse
distributors, like Woodwind/Brasswind or Weiner, and also through
Muncy. It's well worth the money. I'm always surprised at the
reaction I get from other professionals when they see my stand.
Apparently you're not the only one looking for a good bass clarinet
stand, and most of the others are suffering with nothing, or with
the heavy-duty Blayman stand, which I recommend only for home use
where you don't have to carry it around anywhere (it weighs a ton,
but is the most stable stand on the market for bass clarinet and
bassoon). Get a hold of a warehouse catalogue. You won't regret
ordering one.
