Look in your local pharmacy for "ezo Denture Cushions" -- I have been using
the "lower regular" type for over a year and find them a great solution to
the problem of lower lip protection (and a more palatable alternative, for
me, to having my teeth filed even, which they aren't). The athletic
mouthpieces you're talking about need hot water and are much more expensive
and bulkier. I bought the box of denture cushions a year-and-a-half ago for
$3 and am nowhere near having used them up. You cut a piece long enough to
fit over your front bottom teeth (you'll understand when you see them -
they're long enough to cover an entire bottom gum). They're stiffened, I
think, with beeswax, so when you put it in your mouth (or just hold it for
a few seconds in your hand), it softens and can be molded easily to your
teeth. When the piece gets grungy or you start to wear through it, you
throw it in a trash can and cut off another chunk. The box has 15 cushions
and you can get at least 4 or 5 useable pieces from each. More comfortable
and flexible than folded up paper.
