That's interesting. It's a well known phenomenon that if you place the butt
end of a reed into a lukewarm glass of water, that the process of osmosis
will transport water through the vessels in the reed and up into the inner
structure of the cane. I'm then assuming that nail polish will strengthen the
reed by coating the inner vessels as it moves inside the reed in a similar
fashion. Of course, I'm merely guessing. We'll have to wait for Fernando's
complete methodology. Though, the idea of even the remote possibility of a
sticky substance like nail polish flaking off inside the clarinet makes me a
tad squeamish. I believe I'll stay with the traditional procedures. :-)
