On the Mozart: You can't really get an "original" edition by any means I =
know without great expense. You probably wouldn't want one anyway, since =
I highly doubt Mozart's original manuscript had any dynamics or =
articulations written in. But probably the "editing" is simply adding =
these dynamics and articulations and transcribing it for Bb clarinet, =
since the concerto was originally written for clarinet in A.=20
I've never looked at the Rubank/Voxman edition, but here's a few editing =
flaws I've seen on the Adagio in other editions, just in case they're in =
yours. One edition has 2 measures of piano (orchestra) introduction =
added before the clarinet entrance. Sure, it's useful for competitions =
to get the tempo, but it's NOT what Mozart wrote! Also, in measure 84, =
the last note of beat 2 should be a G, not an A as some editions have =
it.=20
Incidentally, if you don't have the complete concerto, I highly =
recommend picking up a copy. The Mozart is the cornerstone of the entire =
repertoire, and although few people play it well, virtually every =
serious clarinetist works on it at some point. I don't really know of a =
great edition, but I'm sure many other subscribers to this list do.=20
Two more tidbits about the Adagio. First, many editions choose to put =
the Baermann cadenza in the "cadenza" spot. My feeling is that this =
doesn't fit at all, since it's not really a cadenza but more of an =
embellishment, a transitional passage of a dozen or so notes. Secondly, =
it was the theme song for the film Out Of Africa, with a fairly decent =
recording as I recall. Anyway, good luck on it, and if you need any =
help, I'm sure I and many other list subscribers would be happy to =
oblige.
