Hey everybody...I am thinking about getting a bass clarinet (for
graduation) and am probably going to end up getting a Buffet Low C
(Prestige). My question is whether anybody on the list has had success
with a Mitchell Lurie Crystal MP and ML inverted Springboard Ligature. A
friend of mine told me that there were more overtones present with that
setup and therefore I would have a better tone. Is this true?TIA

This is the exact set-up I played for quite some time (and the setup that
my girlfriend plays currently). I think the Mitchell Lurie Bass
Mouthpieces are great and the Lig.'s are pret ty good too. My only
problem with the mouthpiece is that it is *extremely* open and I found
that I would sometimes close the reed off (as the openness required a soft
reed to make it sound good). I eventually found a Selmer C* that had been
refaced by Everet Matson (sp?) to J. Lawrie Bloom and Ronald Reuben's
specifications. This is the greatest mouthpiece of any type I have ever
played. But good luck finding one as this was purchased used off of a
player here in rochester. I think the Buffet Basses have a great sound
and they are easy to control, especially in the upper register.
