Subj: Inquiry re Peter Sculthorpe

Belated thanks to Floyd Williams and Jack Kissinger for their responses to
my inquiry a month ago about Sculthorpe's Songs of Sea and Sky. A pianist
friend and I did it last week at a recital, and during rehearsal we fell in
love with it. (At recital I made some introductory remarks in which I said
(perhaps unwisely) that the piece portrayed (not "exemplified," but
"portrayed") the musical imperialism of Western Christian culture.
Afterward, someone asked me why I hated Bach.) Floyd, if you are in
contact with the composer, please convey to him our heartfelt gratitude for
this piece.

Now we are looking for other pieces by Sculthorpe to play. Richard Gilbert
lists "Dream Tracks," for cl, vn and piano. It's been recorded by
Ludwig-Verdehr, but I don't have access to this recording. Has anyone on
the list played it? Does anyone know of any other chamber pieces he wrote
for clarinet?

As they say, TIA

Gary
