Carolyn,

I live in Cambridge, Mass., right outside of Boston and play with the Air
Force Band stationed near Boston. There are six clarinettists in our band, and
one more coming this month. At present, I'm the only subscriber to this list
from our section.

There are several colleges in the Boston area; probably the best for classical
music is the New England Conservatory of Music; I believe their clarinet
teachers are:

1) Bill Wrzesien (pronounced Zee-shun), who plays with the Boston Ballet and
Opera Orchestras (?) as well as the Boston Symphony Chamber Players (an
excellent chamber music group that performs at Jordon Hall (at NEC)

2) Thomas Martin (Assistant Principal/Eb with the Boston Symphony and probably
the best jazz clarinet player in the area)

-both are excellent teachers; one of our clarinettists here studied with
Wrzesien and raves about him.

3) and Jonathan Cohler; I don't know much about him, but he is a subscriber to
this listserv, and often sends out advise to subscribers. He has made 3-4(?)
clarinet solo recordings, and has gotten good reviews on them; I don't know
about his teaching ability, or if he teaches, but he is on the staff at NEC
Extension Division.

The number at NEC is (617) 262-1120 - main number.

I think Ian Greitzer (?) teaches at Boston Conservatory, which I understand is
more into theater and dance - I don't think they're really known for their
classical music department for woodwinds.

There's also Boston University, I'm not sure of the teacher there, but it is a
great school.

There are over 60(?) colleges in the Boston area, but I believe those three
are the best for music. If you get a chance, pick up a Thursday edition of the
Boston Globe and check out the Calendar section - it lists all of the upcoming
recitals concerts (BSO), lectures, anything related to music - it's quite
helpful.

Hope this is helpful; if you need any more info, let me know and I'll see what
I can find out.

Good luck!

I am thinking of moving to Boston next fall. Few questions:
-Is there anyone on Klarinet from Boston?
-Does anyone know who teaches clarinet at the Boston Conservatory?

Another question:
-Does anyone know of a good recording of the Muczynski Time Pieces?
Thanks-
Carolyn Stock
