Robert,

I first became aware of the Star Trek clarinet episode from a
lively thread of messages on Klarinet, which is probably in the archives.
One evening this last year, during which my son was watching a rerun episode
in another room, I heard clarinet music and rushed into the room to hear
the last few seconds of the scene.

Sherri reports that Ensign Kim was the player and that it was the
Mozart Clarinet Concerto. Since my memory of the event is a little fuzzy,
I will defer to her on the selection, although, for some reason, I
thought it was one of the Brahms sonatas.

I seem to recall something of a debate on Klarinet about whether
Kim was merely fingering the passage or actually playing. Someone
reported that the actor was a competent clarinetist and was actually
playing in the scene. I also recall hearing complimentary reports about
the playing.
