Apologies if this gets duplicated, but it did not appear to arrive when I
first sent it.
The 13 series mouthpieces are very poorly described by Vandoren. I believe
they are supposed to be based on early Kasper mouthpieces.
They differ in that the baffle is concave instead of straight, as on a
traditional Vandoren mouthpiece. The resulting sound is slightly darker and
less edgy, but a bit flatter in pitch.
They seem to be popular in England at the moment, and in my shop they
outsell the standard ones by about 4 to 1. Maybe this is because they are
new?
Some of our customers think they are the best thing since sliced bread. If
they are a bit flat, the easiest answer to have the mouthpiece shortened by
about 1mm.
There are 7 different lays (facings), 4 are the same as normal ones and 3
are new facings.
They are definitely worth a try and not just a gimmick.
