So having gone on ad nauseum about saliva etc... What's the role of
mechanical stresses in killing reeds?
Given that pressure = force/area and that the contact area of the
lip with the reed amounts to a very small area, I could imagine
that the pressures applied to that reed are pretty hefty. Has anyone
ever measured those (should I apologize in advance to the poor
graduate student that gets stuck with it :-))? How much is that contributing?
