Subj: Reeds and soaking

Some liquid must initially soak a reed for it to play. After I is soaked in
water, it is mostly moist "Lung" air which is blown through the mouthpiece
and reed. Even though we continually lick the reed to keep it wet, does the
reed really soak in an excess of saliva? I agree with the advantages of
initial water soaking.
