I decided to teach because I love to teach. Even when I was in elementary
school I knew that I would be a teacher. I wasn't sure what I would teach,
but I knew that teaching was for me. In High School I debated going into
science or music education. I decided on music and I have not regretted my
decision.
I really love what I am doing now. I am working with middle school
children, and yes there are days when it is very difficult to teach but there
are other days, when I would not give it up for anything. On the rough days,
I just keep reminding myself "they are only 13 and are hormonally
challenged".
Earlier this year, I was teaching elementary band and that was also very
rewarding. I am not sure which level I prefer. Both levels have their
advantages and disadvantages. I have also worked with high school students
in a marching band situation.
To answer your question "why do you teach"- because it is very fulfilling
to me. "Will I do this until I retire?"- most defintely.
