I too must indulge myself with great memories -

Around the 3rd grade we were all given "Tonettes" (anyone remember those?)
to play in music class. I remember vividly that they cost $1.50 including a
book. We learned basic music, notation etc. on those. After a time, we
were to pick an instrument to play. Again, I remember vividly asking the
band director (who was a clarinettist) what was the easiest instrument to
play. Without hesitation, he replied, clarinet. What a lie!! I think he
probably needed clarinets in the band or something. Anyway, I started
playing and went on to receive both my Bachelor's and Master's degrees in
Clarinet. However, along the way, I found that I didn't have the "tunnel
vision" necessary to pursue it exclusively and now make my living as a
Librarian. But... I long to play more and really consider myself a musician
who just works as a Librarian. Maybe I'll win the Lotto someday? I have
enjoyed immensely reading others comments about how they started; how about
more?
