Shostakovich PARTS tend to be written in treble, but at least some of the
scores are in bass clef (it seems to me that the 4th symphony part is in bass
clef too, but it's been a while since I played that one). Whoever did the
(American) parts must have thought he/she was doing us a big favor. Don't you
love reading those low solos like the 7th where all the notes are on the same
plane, with different numbers of ledger lines? No "countour" to read, very
confusing.

Drapkin's book took all the excerpts from scores, which is why the
Shostakovich things there are in bass clef. He also didn't realize that all
Berg scores are c scores. Thus, the excerpts for the Berg Violin Concerto are
actually for bass clarinet in C, while the actual part is in b-flat! Of
course YOU know all this, Mr. Bloom. I am just adding it for the benefit of
anyone who might need to learn the part.
