I took up the clarinet last year, at the age of 39. For me, it was
hearing Eddie Daniels play that gave me the overpowering urge to learn
to play. My prior exposure wasn't great, so I can't say that some
other fine artist wouldn't have clinched it for me. I find Jonathan
Cohler's recordings most inspirational, for instance :-) I also enjoy
Benny Goodman. Stoltzman's recordings are nice too. Want to check out
fellow Bronx-ite Don Byron's work! I gather he is pretty super!

Now that I AM learning, and have experience actually playing the
instrument, I really find it difficult to sit down and listen to Eddie
Daniels. I now listen to him only occasionally because to my
beginner's ear, what he does with the instrument awes me and overwhelms
my comprehension so, that it makes me (as a student) feel truly
hopeless! ;-)

Regards,

Robert
