Just to share an accidental discovery of mine:
I went out looking for the Brahm's quintet last night,
couldn't find one in stock, so I ended up buying a
collection of Schumann clarinet works.

The CD is Marchenbilder, featuring Paul Meyer on
clarinet and Eric Le Sage on piano. The works covered
are:
Fantasiestucke, Op. 73
selection from Marchenbilder, Op. 113
selections from 5 Stucke in Volkston, Op. 102
3 Romanzen, Op. 94
Adagio and Allegro, Op. 70
It is a Denon recording, CD-75960

I can't comment on the technical aspects of the performance
since I do not have the scores and can't play clarinet yet;
however, musically, this has got to be one of the best
combinations of personalities and styles I've ever heard.
There are times when the melodies are passed back and forth
between piano and clarinet where the timbres match so closely
that it's hard to determine exactly where they were handed off.
Neither player intrudes on the other, ever. The recording is
also well done, with a nice ambience without any muddying
of the tones.

One of the high points of my small collection of music.
