By now, some of you who are members of the International Clarinet
Association have received registration materials for ClarinetFest '97.
Festival dates are July 9 -13, 1997. If you are not a member of ICA, please
contact me and we will send you materials directly.

I will be out of the country until April 12 touring as an Artistic
Ambassador for the USIA. However, festival assistants Sheri Slater and Jill
Stewart will be monitoring my mail and phone messages. They will be able to
assist you in my absense.

ClarinetFest '97 offers special opportunities for everyone interested in
the clarinet. Concerts by some of the finest clarinetists from around the
world, masterclasses, discussions with clarinet legends, and the
opportunity to see old friends and make new ones are only some of the
things ClarinetFest '97 presents to you, your students and friends.

There will be over 100 participating artist performers and we anticipate
between 40 and 50 exhibitors of a wide range of products interesting to
clarinetists. Everyone attending has the opportunity to perform on a
concert! Harvey Hermann will be conducting the ICA Clarinet Choir in a
performance just prior to Saturday evening's Gala Concert (Eddie Daniels)
and all are welcome to participate.

One of my good friends asked me why I thought people would want to come to
Lubbock, Texas for ClarinetFest '97, this after recent conferences have
been held in such tourist highlights as Paris, the Valley of the Sun
(Tempe), and Chicago. My response was that it would take an artist roster
of the greatest clarinet players from around the world. I think we have
done that for you. Chances to hear the principal clarinet of the Bolshoi or
hear and meet a legend like Al Gallodoro don't come along very often for
most of us.

Myself and the officers of ICA look forward to seeing you in July!

Oh, and by the way, you'll love Lubbock.

BOB
