Peter,
In the Guinness Book of World Records I think they state that the
lowest orchestral instrument is the sub-contra-bass clarinet, which
means there is probably some obscure sub-contra-alto between it and the
regular contra-bass. This monster is pitched in Bb, but I can't remember
what pitch it can go down to.....anyway, it sure must be a pain in the
neck to carry!
