Kathi,
I played the Three Pieces a month or so ago for a master class at a
local college. I'm a high school junior, and my teacher picked out the
Pieces for me. It was kind of a historical thing, because the person
giving the master class was my teacher's old teacher and had taught him
the Pieces. I enjoyed them very much and found them to be just enough of
a challenge to occupy me, but not insurmountable. Unfortunately, though,
my clarinet broke in the middle of the second movement and I (at the
epitome of embarrassment) had to borrow a friend's clarinet to finish
the Pieces. And as if I wasn't embarrassed enough, I almost fainted in
the third movement, because I had a 101 fever and didn't know it!!!! But
aside from all my harrowing experiences that day, ( didn't mean to sound
discouraging!:) ) I liked the Three Pieces a lot, and playing them has
made Stravinsky one of my favorites. I hope you have as much fun as I
did practising them and better luck when you perform!!
