A while back, somebody posted something about the original instrumentation
of the Holst Suites. Last year the Eastman Wind Ensemble did a clinic on
the history of the wind ensemble's orchestration. The parts we played
from were the normal parts, but he told us to play or not to play and all
of the doublings thinned out and the texture was much clearer. You can
write to Hunsberger here at ESM and I will give the school's address at
the end of this post. The other thing (that might be easier) would be to
buy or read a copy of Hunsberger's book on the history of the Eastman Wind
Ensemble. I am sure ther ewould be some sort of a history of
orchestration and the instrumentation would be listed. Good Luck!!!
