Hmmm - If I used this excuse in my job I'd be out on the street. I
"perform" on a daily basis (not on a musical instrument) and still have
to spend my own time doing research and practicing so I'll have a job
tomorrow. If I can fit 1 or 2 hours of clarinet practicing in I'm a
happy man. And yes, I consider myself to now be a "student" of clarinet
(albeit a real beginner, somewhere near 5th grade middle school ;^)

I guess you're referring to full-time students here, but even then
many of my younger friends are college-aged and are balancing families
and jobs along with their studies (not all are lucky enougn to get
livable stipends). It's hard; hopefully their teachers can work with
them
in utilizing good time-management, too.
