Like millions of other people I have looked into playing in a military
band. I have heard many mixed responses on the various bands, from
people no longer serving and some still in the bands. There are many
great advantages to the bands, and some disadvantages. . .isn't that the
case with any job?
Could it be that the physical requirements of the military are also
processes by which they screen too? This is a bit of a rhetorical
question, since in my case when I was dealing with the Army, and
ultimately denied an audition for physical reasons (which are _no_
problem in my "normal" life whatsoever) the Major told me they lose many
qualified players due to the physical requirements. If you are willing
to contest it, try to get a waiver, but realize that some things they
will _never_ provide a waiver for.
