I have recently found out, indirectly from a music-specialized
physician, that common physical inflictions to musicians (especially
carpal(sp?) tunnel syndrome) occur roughly at a ratio of 2 to 1, women to
men. With the rigorous and sustained practicing that is required for an
individual to reach a professional level, this might account, partly, for
the fewer numbers of female professional players.

On the same topic, can anybody offer any advice on proper
practice procedure (say that three times fast) or hints on how to avoid
such ailments.
